Company Keramet minimizes costs for scrap metal processing
One of the priority objectives of the company Keramet is the reduction of production costs arising by procurement and processing of raw materials by means of process optimization.
Thus, in the Keramet group of companies a range of methods was implemented, including application of LEAN tools (5S, Kaizen), and the compliance of the quality management system with the standard ISO9001:2008 was confirmed. Additionally, the company is investing into modern equipment distinguished by high reliability and low operating costs: press-shears Metso Lindemann EC1240 with the capacity of up to 40 ton/hour (capacity of the similar Chinese press-shears is 20 ton/hour), briquetting presses Metso Lindemann MUB630, loading machines Terex Fuchs.
The equipment operation costs were also cut. Since 2012, the company has reduced the number of appeals to dealer centers for servicing and spare parts supplies. Cooperation with Ukrainian companies was established instead; wear parts are ordered from Ukrainian companies without any loss in equipment performance and with reduction of inter-maintenance periods.
In 2016 capital repairs of press-shears Metso Lindemann EC1240 and loading machine Fuchs MHL350 were conducted on Keramet’s own. There was also a pusher rod of the press-shears AKROS CIV608 replaced. If made by the European manufacturer this item costs about 1 million UAH. However, the production department of Keramet prepared the specification with requirements to it and the rod was successfully produced by the Ukrainian company. It has allowed reduction of the equipment maintenance costs by 66%.
"Cooperation with Ukrainian companies is one of our priorities. This allows us to save time and money without any loss of quality and to support domestic producers", - said Production Director of PJSC Keramet Kostyantyn Saganenko.
